Where are we going today?
NATO is arming up massively. Peace through deterrence is back on the agenda. After decades of peace through trade, negotiations and diplomatic relations, we are told the only solution that we have left is to be stronger than Russia, to have more soldiers, to have more weapons. And to be independent from the US, who apparently take military action against their own NATO partners into consideration to take control of Greenland.
It‘s the time of the Zeitenwende (turn of times) as former German chancellor Olaf Scholz put it in 2022, shortly after the full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. 460.000 soldiers is what the German minister of defense aims for. But a soldier is not a number.
